Our house was built in the 60s. When we bought the house, we had some work done right away. That involved tearing up most of the carpet and re-finishing the hard wood floors underneath. We also painted the 70s style wood paneling in the basement white. And functional things like upgrading the electrical, replacing the hot water heater and the HVAC.
A couple years ago, we had the kitchen redone.
The old wooden cabinets and floral wallpaper are the before, the white cabinets are the after.
We also had a look through added so that the kitchen is much more open now
Now, we're working on the bathrooms and basement. We're tearing up the old carpet in the basement and getting rid of the weird drop ceiling. Nowhere in the house has overhead lighting so we're adding that as well.
Ugly carpet and weird lighting will soon be gone!
The master bedroom has a small bathroom and a small closet. We're going to take that whole area and make it into a big bathroom. There's a room next to the master bedroom that we don't really use. So we're going to make that area into a big walk-in closet.
Plans for the new master bathroom
And we have another full bath in the hallway that we are going to re-do entirely as well.

So far it's been going ok. The biggest issue has been the cats. We have had to lock them up in separate rooms during the day so that they don't get in the way. Shelby's been pretty annoyed by it and poor Perry seems like he's been a bit frightened by the noise. I have been working from home more to keep an eye on them and I've found him hiding under the bed a lot.
The other change is that we're leaving the bedroom door open at night and that means that Perry has been sleeping in there with us. He has felt the need to wake me up in the middle of the night a couple times so that he can get pets. I'm not sure why needs pets at 3am but he's been insistent. And yesterday morning, I was woken up by the sounds of the cats having a spat in the bedroom.
Oh well, it will be worth it in the end hopefully! I'll definitely share photos once it's over. There's going to be a period of time when both bathrooms are being worked on that we're going to have to shower at the gym. So I'm not looking forward to that but at least we still have a half bathroom in the basement.
